Seattle Trikkers
Here in Seattle we are blessed with great Trikke trails! Here is my first-hand review of many of them:
Dedicated Trails
- Alki: Very good condition; mild hills on the eastern third, flat on the rest; lots of pedestrians and skaters, especially on the flat parts (Alki is one of the most popular trails in Seattle)
- Burke-Gilman: Good to very good condition with spots of rough; a nice mixture of flats and mild hills; very busy on the weekends
- Cedar River: Good to very good condition; mostly flat, with occasional medium hills (although going south from the Renton Transit Center until the pavement disappears is actually a gradual-and-steady uphill climb); low traffic; runs along the Maple Valley Highway for much of its length, which has heavy truck traffic
- Duwamish: Good to medium rough; flat; hardly any traffic; runs alongside an industrial road with medium traffic
- Elliott Bay: Very good condition downtown to the Magnolia Bridge; somewhat rough and narrow but still quite rideable after that; mostly flat with some mild hills; some pedestrians and skaters on the downtown side but for most of the trail they're off on their own path. Great for going fast!
- Green River: Good to very good condition; mostly flat, with occasional medium hills; low traffic; several portions are on-street and not marked
- Interurban: Good to very good condition; undulating mild to medium hills; low traffic; multiple street and railroad crossings
- Sammamish River: Very good condition on the north half, good to medium on the south half; mostly flats and mild hills, with a few steeper inclines where it goes under bridges; low to medium traffic
- Seward Park: Good to medium rough; flats and mild hills; popular with pedestrians and skaters, but quite wide (it's an old road I think) so there's generally plenty of room for some big-time carving
- Waterfront: Good condition; flat; some pedestrians and skaters, especially near downtown
- 1st Avenue South Bridge: Very good condition; medium to steep hills; some pedestrians and skaters, generally low traffic
- I-90 Bridge: Very good condition; medium to steep hills on each end, flat on the rest; low traffic
- West Seattle Bridge: Very good condition; medium to steep hills; generally low traffic
On Street Dedicated Bike Lanes
- 99 / South Marginal Way: Medium rough; flat; medium traffic levels
On Street Trails
- Alki: Alki Avenue South: Medium rough to rough; flat to mild hills; low to medium traffic
- Alki: Beach Drive Southwest - Lincoln Parkway Southwest - Fauntleroy Way Southwest - Medium rough to rough, steep hills (some of these would be a challenge on a bicycle, let alone a Trikke!); medium traffic
- Ballard: Chittendam Locks to Burke-Gilman Connector: Rough; hills through Ballard and then flat; medium traffic levels
- East Magnolia: Elliott Bay to Chittendam Locks Connector: Medium rough; flat in the middle with medium-to-steep hills on both ends, low traffic levels
- Lake Washington Boulevard East - Lakeside Avenue South - Lake Washington Boulevard South: Medium rough to rough; medium and steep hills with lots of curves; high traffic levels, especially on the north end
- South Orcas Street - Beacon Avenue South - South Snoqualmie Street - 12th Avenue South - South Lucile Street - 6th Avenue South - South Michigan Street: Medium rough; steep hills until South Michigan Street; medium to heavy traffic
